What is Lip Tattoo?
Lip tattoo is a semi permanent cosmetic makeup effect using pigment on the vermillion border and body of the lips. Full lip colour and lip blush allows you to wake up with picture-perfect, beautifully flushed lips without applying any lipstick, balm, or gloss. It enhances the beauty of the natural lip colour, improves the shape of the lips, gives definition and the illusion of fullness. The procedure can also correct uneven lips and will result in a fuller more youthful appearance. A lip tattoo helps prevent your lipstick from bleeding as well as minimising the appearance of wrinkles. Once healed, this treatment delivers very natural results.
We currently offer two different styles of lip tattoo to suit your preference. If you would love to achieve a full, opaque colour and defined vermilion border, a full lip colour is the style for you. Or if you are wanting something soft and natural, with transparent coverage, a lip blush would be ideal. A great way to ease yourself into a lip tattoo is by choosing a lip blush and if you would love to add more colour and definition, you can easily transition into a full lip colour. We offer a wide range of pigment colours to choose from. Bring your favourite lipstick product and we will colour match it for you.
Our Full Lip Colour
A full lip colour is the process of implanting pigment into the lip creating an even saturation from the vermillion border towards the centre of the lips. This style is great for uneven symmetry, loss of lip line, and discolouration. We can rebuild the shape and give the illusion of fullness. The artistic use of colour, shading, and contouring brings out a fuller appearance of the lips. Choose from any pigment colour to give you that "lipstick" appearance. Once healed, you may lose up to 40-60% of colour. If a bolder, solid look is what you prefer, we recommend a few sessions to layer on that colour for best results.
Our Lip Blush
A lip blush achieves a soft and natural appearance with transparent coverage. It appears like a soft tint on the lips, giving a hint of colour of your choice. This semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing procedure is achieved by depositing pigments in the lip using small needles. We lightly outline the vermillion border and seamlessly blend it into the lip. This procedure is perfect for those wanting a fuller, defined and rejuvenated lip colour. Lip blush is great as a starting point to ease you into a full lip colour tattoo.
Dark Lip Neutralisation
Dark lip neutralisation is the process of lightening and brightening the lips into a warm coral/pink hue. Lips which have a brown, blue or purple hue can be corrected using opposing colours and this colour correction pigment will be selected through the use of colour theory. We only use pinks, peaches, reds, orange tones and golden yellows. We do not offer shades of nudes, browns, beige or tan as this can create unflattering long-term healed results.
Depending on your level of pigmentation, lip thickness and lifestyle factors, the lip neutralisation process may be a long process. 1-4+ neutralisation sessions may be required with 12 weeks in between each session to allow for healing. Although rare, the lip tattoo procedure may cause hyperpigmentation to your lips where the skin may produce more melanin which creates darker pigmentation areas. This is a risk that must be acknowledged when consenting to the procedure.
The Benefits of Lip Tattoo
It's no secret that having plump and symmetrical lips is a trend that has been highly desirable for many years. Getting a cosmetic lip tattoo is an affordable, easy way to achieve those plump and luscious lips. If you lack confidence with the shape, either because of it’s small appearance, unbalanced symmetry or lack of colour, then cosmetic lip tattoo is right for you. Not only does it save time and money on buying lip products, but it also means you no longer have to apply it. It's great for those who have poor eyesight and limited mobility which makes application difficult.
We can help you to create a beautifully designed semi permanent lip tattoo with your choice of shape, style and colour. You can now have beautiful and well-defined lips throughout the day without that fear of getting it wet and having it smudge. Wake up in the morning and already have your lips looking perfect.
The Lip Tattooing Process
Lip tattoo is done with a tattoo machine that implants pigment into lip tissue using ultra-fine needles. While standard tattoos use ink, cosmetic tattooing is done with pigments that is selected according to the natural lip colour and undertone. We have a range of pigment colours to choose from to suit your preference. This colour will be discussed and approved with you.
To begin the process, a comprehensive and informative consultation takes place. This is where we discuss the shape, style and colour that you want to achieve. We begin designing and mapping the lips with absolute precision. We use a standard lip liner pencil to trace and create the shape. We then outline this shape with concealer. Once we are both 100% happy with the design, a pre numb is applied. When the lips become numb, we begin implanting pigment into the vermillion border and follow the shape that was created. For comfort during the procedure, an anaesthetic is used once the skin has been broken. Once we etch the pigment into the outline, we begin filling the lip and building saturation. This tattooing process continues until an even saturation has been achieved. The tattoo session takes up to 1-2 hours, depending on the thickness of the lips and saturation that you wanted to achieve.
What to Expect After the Procedure
When the first session of tattooing is over, there may be slight bruising and swelling which will eventually subside. You can continue to carry on with your normal activities, but it is advisable to take a day off from work if you want to be discreet. You will experience a slight flaking of the lip tissue which is common during the healing stage. A complimentary after care package will be given that includes a specific balm to prevent infections and irritation. It is important to follow the aftercare plan that is provided to ensure perfect retention and healthy healing.
You can expect the colour intensity to fade by 40% to 60% for the first session. This is why a touch up within 6-10 weeks is recommended for the best result. For dark lip neutralisation, it's ideal to book 2-3 sessions to allow for maximum retention and lightening. It's common for dark lip neutralisation clients to experience post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation which is where your lips may temporarily be darker or whiter after the treatment. Please allow your lips a minimum of 10 weeks healing for this darkness or lightness to subside. There are a few elements that can affect the lip tattoo in regards to how long it lasts. Depending on your lifestyle and daily activities, results may differ for each person.
